Why a phrontistery.
A phrontistery — from the Greek phrontistērion — is a place set aside for thinking. We chose the word because it describes what we actually do: a small house of study where students are taught to prepare, not merely to apply.
“Hippocratic” names the standard rather than the subject. The oath’s first duty is honesty about what can and cannot be done, and that is the part we borrowed. We tell families when an application is unrealistic, when a year of preparation would be worth more than a rushed submission, and when we are not the right people for the job.
Hippo IMP was founded for students in Myanmar and across the region who were being sold outcomes instead of guidance — placement fees, inflated shortlists, and no one to call once the visa was stamped. Everything we built since is a correction of that.
